![]() htop is more of an interactive program as it supports mouse and keyboard operations for switching between values and tabs. The Top system monitor is a useful aid for identifying system bottlenecks, and Htop, Atop, and Glances extend its possibilities. It can be considered as a Linux counterpart of Windows Task Manager. I browsed through man htop, but unfortunately I cannot see such command line/option. Htop is an interactive system monitor, process viewer, and process manager designed for Unix systems. htop command is a Linux utility for displaying crucial information about the system’s processes. The software does a good job of keeping you within the application. There are bar charts for key CPU and memory metrics, processes can toggle between a flat list and a hierarchy via the F5shortcut, field sorted can be done via mouse clicks and there are seven different colour modes are supported. ![]() In other words, htop provides a slightly better user experience, but it's not a standard command you'll find on all Linux systems. ![]() htop is newer and it adds color and gives a more interactive user interface than top. This would be useful if integrating the command into, say, a tmux session. Htopput a focus on telemetry display organisation. top is the older command and it comes preinstalled on all Linux distros. You can exit htop by pressing Ctrl+C as with top. ![]() Unlike top, It is not always installed by default, but can be considered a drop-in-replacement. Htop put a focus on telemetry display organisation. and get the exact same behavior as if hitting F4 and typing in the terminal UI. htop provides better visualization of multiple CPU threads, better awareness of color support in modern terminals, and more sorting options, among other features. In 2004, Hisham Muhammad began work on creating a distinctly different systems telemetry monitor. Now, I would like to start htop with filtering already from the command line, say: htop -filter="gphoto2" I'm already aware that I can start htop, and then hit F4 for filter, then type or paste a process name search query (say, gphoto2 for looking for rvice), and then htop filters the shown processes: if there is no such process, it shows nothing, if it starts later, htop shows it then. htop is the prettier, more colorful, and slightly more up-to-date version of top.A few metrics such as steal and iowait are easier to see in top, but for most other purposes, htop may be the better tool for troubleshooting server performance issues.
